Tucson is Arizona’s second flight-training market and it works differently from Phoenix. Rather than a dedicated general-aviation reliever field like Deer Valley or Falcon, most Tucson training happens at Tucson International itself — a real airline airport. You will share the airspace with airliners and, depending on the day, with military traffic from Davis-Monthan next door.
The other thing worth knowing is that Tucson’s school roster is smaller and more tightly connected than the count suggests. Two of the operators at Tucson International, Arizona Aero-Tech and Double Eagle Aviation, share the same building on Aviator Lane and appear to share an operator — so calling both is not really getting two independent opinions. A third option is not a commercial school at all: Alpha Air has been running since 1980 as a non-profit flying club founded by Civil Air Patrol search-and-rescue members, which is a genuinely different cost structure and a genuinely different culture.
