Who are Chandler Air Service, really?

Chandler Air Service is the aerobatics and tailwheel school in the Phoenix valley. Their web address — aerobatics.com — is not a marketing flourish; upset training, spin work and conventional-gear (tailwheel) instruction is genuinely what they are known for, and there is no dense cluster of competitors doing the same thing nearby.

That specialism is real and it is worth understanding before you call, because tailwheel and aerobatic training is a different product from a standard private-pilot course. It builds stick-and-rudder skill that transfers to everything else you fly, and pilots seek it out deliberately. It is not, however, the fastest or cheapest route to a private certificate if that is all you want.

What is it good at?

  • A rare speciality in Arizona: aerobatic, spin and tailwheel instruction rather than another Cessna-and-checklist syllabus.
  • Long-standing presence at Chandler Municipal, a busy but manageable training field.
  • The skills taught here — energy management, unusual-attitude recovery, rudder discipline — are the ones experienced pilots most often say they wish they had learned earlier.

What should you go in knowing?

  • The public rating is genuinely poor. Google shows a 2.0 rating across 18 reviews and Yelp shows 1.9 across 16, both checked July 2026. We are not going to pretend that away. Read the reviews yourself before you decide — a low rating on a small sample can reflect a specific era, a specific staff member, or a mismatch of expectations, but it can also mean exactly what it looks like.
  • The website is dated and does not carry current pricing or booking.
  • Search results are muddied by an unrelated Chandler-area HVAC company with a similar name. Make sure you have reached the aviation business.
  • If you want a conventional private-pilot course with no aerobatic element, the other Chandler and Mesa options are a more direct fit.

What do the public reviews say?

Google shows a 2.0 rating across 18 reviews (checked July 2026). We show that as plain text rather than dressing it up as our own rating, because we did not collect it and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Chandler Air Service is not currently a partner school, so there is no booking button here — just their own number and their own website, unchanged. We list every Arizona school we can verify, partner or not. Are you this school? Here is what partnering looks like.
