Who are Aerodyne Flight Center, really?
Aerodyne Flight Center is a small, independently run flight school based at Phoenix Deer Valley Airport, the busiest general-aviation airport in the United States. It is not a chain and not an airline academy — it is the kind of shop where the owner is often the person flying with you.
Two things make Aerodyne unusual among the Deer Valley operators. It runs a Redbird flight simulator, which lets you practise procedures on the ground at a fraction of the cost of an hour in the airplane. And it offers mobile flight instruction, meaning a CFI will come to your aircraft rather than requiring you to rent theirs — genuinely useful if you already own or share a plane, and rare enough in the Phoenix metro to be worth naming.
A note on location, because older directories get this wrong: Aerodyne is often listed under Scottsdale. It operates from Deer Valley in Phoenix. Its marketing covers the whole Scottsdale–Phoenix–Glendale metro, which is where the confusion started.
What is it good at?
- Based at Deer Valley (KDVT), so you learn to fly in genuinely busy controlled airspace from day one — demanding at first, and excellent radio training.
- Redbird simulator time available, which is the cheapest way to drill instrument and emergency procedures.
- Mobile CFI instruction for aircraft owners, which most schools do not offer at all.
- Runs its own pilot-supply shop, so headsets, charts and kneeboards are on-site.
What should you go in knowing?
- It is a small operation. The reachability that makes a small school personal also means calls can go unanswered while the owner is flying — public feedback we read in July 2026 specifically mentioned difficulty reaching the owner. That is the single most common complaint about small flight schools everywhere, and it is exactly why we exist: we answer, and we get you booked.
- There is no online booking or published pricing on their website, so times and rates are quoted by phone.
- Part 61 versus Part 141 status is not published. If you need GI Bill or M-1 student-visa eligibility, confirm this before you commit — those two funding routes require a Part 141 school.
